According to CareerPlanning.com, a medical assistant is responsible for “administrative and clinical tasks in the office of a physician or other medical practitioner.”

Medical assistants work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, doctor offices, outpatient clinics, and surgery centers. The exact duties a medical assistant performs vary by state law; however, tasks often include clinical duties; EKGs; blood draws; minor surgical procedures; administrative tasks; maintaining patient medical records; patient billing, and scheduling appointments.

Medical assistant courses and/or training alternatives are offered across the country, and are available for registration throughout various, community colleges and vocational schools. Classes cover a gamut of instructional training, including medical terminology; clinical procedures; first aid; record-keeping, CPR and more! Medical assistant programs usually vary in length from 1 to 2 years. Two-year programs are met with a associate degree, whereas less intensive programs result in a certificate of completion/training.
